Create for less
Some people are just born with the passion
to create. Like one of our loyal customers, Yukiko Sato of Yukiko
Sato New York, who's in the CreateForLess Customer Spotlight this
month. She has been designing since she first created clothes
for her baby doll, and now designs her very own collection of
TESAGE Bags. Take a peek at some of her original designs...
After pursuing her education in fashion, Yukiko
Sato worked as a kimono dresser, costume designer and wardrobe
stylist for film, television and print advertising. Yukiko's
career and travels to different countries helped her become
familiar with different types of fabrics. Her first TESAGE Bags
were made of remnant fabric, which she designed as gifts for
friends. Her friends loved the TESAGE Bags and encouraged her
to sell them to stores. TESAGE means purse with handles in Japanese.
She started Yukiko Sato New York TESAGE Bags
Collection in 1998 and sold them at Hyperiality in Manhattan.
Then a musician who bought a TESAGE Bag fromHyperiality, introduced
them to the owner of The Bunker in Kansas City, Missouri, and
the rest is history. Now her bags are sold at stores across
the US and Japan, as well as on her website at www.yukikosato.com.
Yukiko said that having a web site has helped her reach customers
outside of New York, such as Hawaii, Texas, Nigeria, Singapore
and more. Her bags have even reached celebrities! "One
of our customers who might be an editor or fashion related job
told me she bought our Mesh Bag for actress Christina Ricci
when she was on the cover of Jane Magazine, which we used for
our Mesh Bag photo", said Sato.
Yukiko says her products are for "Every
stylish woman who loves bags"! Yukiko designs her TESAGE
Bags using vintage and ethnic fabrics from different countries
such as Paris, Italy, Switzerland, India, Thailand, China and
Japan. Yukiko uses 100% Cotton Gutermann Thread and Clover Chacopen
transfer pencils from CreateForLess too. She focuses on classic
and modern designs, fine fabrics and subtle color. Yukiko also
incorporates ideas from far Eastern design with current New
York designs. Her most popular items are the Katty TESAGE Bags
and Coin TESAGE Cases.
Yukiko's best tip for other designers is to
"Love and trust your designs and be willing to spend your
time on your business". Visit Yukiko Sato New York today
